Wat blijkt? Victoria's Secret Bombshell is meer dan alleen een parfum. Het is blijkbaar ook een zéér effectief middel tegen muggen. Wanneer je het aardig ruim aanbreng, kan het je zelfs twee uur(!) tegen muggenbeten beschermen, zo blijkt uit een nieuw onderzoek van de Mexico State University.
Voor de studie testten de onderzoekers 8 gewone antimuggenmiddelen én twee parfums, waaronder dus Bombshell van Victoria's Secret. Aan Today vertelt professor Immo Hansen:
'We tested VS Bombshell because one of our test subjects had gotten it as a birthday present, so it was a completely random pick. Since it smells flowery and sweet, we thought that it would attract mosquitoes, but the reverse was true.'
Onderzoeker Stacy Rodriquez voegt daaraan toe:
'There was some previous literature that said fruity, floral scents attracted mosquitoes, and to not wear those. It was interesting to see that the mosquitoes weren't actually attracted to the person that was wearing the Victoria's Secret perfume — they were repelled by it.'
Maar! Hansen raadt ons niet aan om Bombshell te vervangen voor hun 'normale' anitimuggenmiddel, zoals DEET:
'In our experiments, best protection was achieved with 30 percent or 95 percent DEET-containing repellents, or oil of lemon eucalyptus. I personally use a 30 percent DEET repellent when I go into the field — or my backyard.'
