Winter is coming, maar voor Game of Thrones-fans nog vroeger. Zij moeten namelijk aan de koude, harde waarheid dat hun favoriete show pas in 2019(!!) terugkeert.
Sophie Turner, die Sansa Stark speelt in de razendpopulaire serie, laat weten dat fans nog dik een jaar moeten wachten op nieuw materiaal. Aan Variety vertelt ze:
'I'm really excited. Game of Thrones comes out in 2019.'
De releasedatum lijkt helemaal te kloppen, want de cast is pas afgelopen oktober begonnen met het filmen van het ongetwijfeld knallende, laatste seizoen. Sophie Turner bevestigt dan ook aan Variety:
'We started in October, so we're maybe like a tenth of the way through, haha. No, no, we've got six or seven months left.'
President van HBO, Casey Bloys, hintte er eerder al op dat het achtste seizoen wellicht een jaar uitgesteld zou worden. Hij vertelde aan Entertainment Weekly dat de producers ervoor willen zorgen dat de finale zo 'cinematic' mogelijk is:
'They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule. We'll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing. One of the hallmarks of the show has been how cinematic it is. The show has proven that TV is every bit as impressive and in many cases more so, than film.'
Ook laat Bloys weten dat wat fans te wachten staat 'ongekend' is:
'What they're doing is monumental. When you see these battles in season 7, and what I imagine season 8 will be, it's a big, big show. We've done a lot of great shows, but this one combines the complex characters we love with a huge cinematic scope. I think this is the first show to prove that can be done — and we're the first people to pay for it.'
Ook al duurt het dus dik een jaar langer, het zal het wachten waard zijn. Bovendien werkt HBO aan meerdere Game of Thrones-prequels, die in de toekomst moeten uitkomen. Bloys laat wel weten dat ze er maar één daarvan ook echt in productie zullen nemen en gaan uitzenden.
