Het einde nadert. En al duurt het nog ruim één jaar voordat wij het laatste seizoen van Game of Thrones kunnen bekijken, de cast en crew is langzaam afscheid aan het nemen.
Zo vertelde Sophie Turner, die Sansa Stark speelt, The Hollywoord Reporter over die keer dat de acteurs samen het allerlaatste script doornamen en iedereen in tranen uitbarstte bij de woordjes 'end of Game of Thrones'.
'As soon as they read that out, pretty much everyone burst into tears. There was a standing ovation for [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. We were all clapping and cheering. It was amazing.'
Ze deelde ook hoe bizar het was om, na al die jaren, te beseffen dat de succesvolle HBO-serie ten einde komt. Een schokkend moment, aldus Turner.
'I'm getting goosebumps now thinking about it. It was a shock to the system. We actually realized, reading that 'end of Game of Thrones' line, that that was it. When you're in it, you don't really see an end point. It's just an ongoing thing you're living with. It was a real shock. It was really sad, but there was an immense amount of pride, too. We realized we had done it. We had created this amazing thing, and that's it now. It was just a feeling of pride.'
Ook collega Kit Harington gaf eerder dit jaar bij The One Show van de BBC toe dat hij moest huilen na die laatste table read. Niet vanwege één specifieke gebeurtenis in het script, maar omdat het na acht jaar Game of Thrones nu echt bijna voorbij is.
'We had the read-through last week, in fact, so I know everything now. I cried at the end! It wasn't anything particular that happens. You have to remember, I've done eight years of it. I think, no one really cares about it more than us.'
Over dat laatste, achtste seizoen, mag Turner uiteraard niet te veel vertellen. Wel verklapte ze dat het allemaal nog meer episch en grootser is dan ooit tevoren.
'It's definitely more epic this season, for sure. It grows and grows and grows. There are bigger and more fantastical elements, which have always been underlying throughout, but this time, it's really emerging and there are very big roles this season. But we still very much managed to maintain those human relationships and stories that bring it back to reality and keep it resonating with the audience. '

Wanneer de laatste afleveringen van Game of Thrones precies te zien zijn, is nog steeds niet helemaal duidelijk. Volgens de verwachtingen zal de productie nog zeker tot augustus duren. Geduld hebben dus!
