Gossip Girl was natuurlijk fantastisch, zo vindt ook Blake Lively. Maar de actrice moest wel wat inleveren voor de show, zo laat ze nu aan de Britse Glamour weten. Blake - die jarenlang party girl Serena van der Woodsen speelde - vond namelijk de boodschap van de serie niet al te best:
'People loved it, but it always felt a little personally compromising - you want to be putting a better message out there. When parents would say, 'My teenager is watching your show,' I wanted to say, 'Hold on, why? Are you having a talk with them after?' From the drug use to the point where we're killing people, it's sexual and salacious.'
Wat Blake - die nu zelf ook moeder is - wel als pluspunt en goed voorbeeld van de show kan noemen? De vriendschap tussen Serena en Blair, ookal was-ie zeer, ehm, tumultueus:
'I loved it when they put Blair and Serena as best friends supporting each other.'
