Een kleine recap. Kylie Jenner postte afgelopen weekend op haar instagrampagina een foto van zichzelf met cornrows met het bijschrift: 'I woke up like diss.' En dat schoot in het verkeerde keelgat van Hunger Games-actrice Amandla Stenberg.
In een post (die nu is verwijderd) zegt de actrice:
"@novemberskyys when u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter."
Daar reageerde Kylie weer op met (doelend op het feit dat Amandla met Jaden Smith naar haar prom ging):
"Mad if I don't. Mad if I do...Go hang w Jaden or something."
Hoewel de comments nu weggehaald zijn, postte de 16-jarige Amandla op Twitter wel een stuk over culturele verschillen, een onderwerp waar ze zich vaker over uitspreekt:
"While white women are praised for altering their bodies, plumping their lips, and tanning their skin, black women are shamed although the same features exist on them naturally. Deeply ingrained into culture is the notion that black female bodies, at the intersect of oppression, are less than human and therefore unattractive."
Flink wat mensen hebben zich intussen bemoeid met de foto van Kylie Jenner, waaronder nu ook Justin Bieber, die het opneemt voor zijn goede vriendin:
