Friends-fan Gareth Stranks, die nu met een zéér donker alternatief einde voor de serie komt, zet ons aan het denken. De goede man postte op Twitter een betoog van het 'andere einde' die enorm depressief en briljant tegelijk is.
Het idee? Phoebe is een drugsverslaafde die alles heeft verzonnen terwijl ze door het raam van Central Perk naar binnenkeek en Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Monica en Ross samen zag:
Juist. Wow. De 30-jarige Stranks vertelt nu aan de Britse Independent hoe hij op dit donkere (doch zéér slimme) idee kwam:
'Me, my girlfriend and our flatmate had been watching Friends all Sunday afternoon. Over dinner we were saying how Friends is basically the story of Rachel Green. Then we started talking about the different big themes across the show and I thought it would be hilarious if there was a "big reveal" ending that tied it all together.The 'It was all a dream' thing is such a cheesy trope, so I thought it would be funny if there was that kind of finale. It was a very tongue-in-cheek idea, one of those 'It all makes sense!' stupid realisations that you could give Friends a really depressing ending.'
Slim. Heel slim. En nu snel even die The Last One-aflevering opzetten om onszelf ervan te verzekeren dat dit heus niet écht het einde was.
