‘I’m over it.’ There, she said it: Adele is over haar ex. Eindelijk. Maar wie dacht dat de zangeres, inmiddels al jaren gelukkig met de vader van haar kind, Simon Konecki, niet nog wat nummertjes baseerde op die mystery ex (hij inspireerde eerder al vele songs op haar hitalbum 21), heeft het mis. De man is uit haar leven, maar nog niet uit haar muziek.
In een interview met The Guardian verklapt Adele dat de tracks Send My Love (to Your New Lover) en I Miss You van haar hagelnieuw uit te komen album toch weer slaan op die ene relatie. Met laatstgenoemde als ‘my fuck you’ song, aldus Adele. ‘It sounds obvious, but I think you only learn to love again when you fall in love again. I'm in that place. My love is deep and true with my man, and that puts me in a position where I can finally reach out a hand to the ex. Let him know I'm over it.’
Of dit Mr. Konecki nog enigszins dwars zit, vraagt u zich af? Adele: ‘My man is loyal. My man is strong. So we spoke early on, and he said, “Your writing isn't anything to do with me.” He's fine with it. And it takes a strong man, I think, to be like that.’
