Vannacht trad Lady Gaga tijdens de Academy Awards op met het voor een Oscar genomineerde nummer Til It Happens to You, dat ze opnam voor de docu over seksueel misbruik op campussen The Hunting Ground. Haar optreden was krachtig en emotioneel en op het laatst voegden slachtoffers van seksueel misbruik zich bij Gaga op het podium:
Lady Gaga vertelde voorafgaand aan het optreden nog op de rode loper van de Oscars:
'It's such an important song to me. One in five women will be raped before the time they finish college; one in 20 men will be raped before the time they finish their schooling at their university. It's something that is deeply connected to my heart. I am myself a survivor; Diane Warren is herself a survivor of sexual violence, and we are here tonight and very grateful to the Academy for giving us this world stage to reward survivors for being brave and coming forward.'
Voordat Lady Gaga het Oscars-podium opstapte, postte ze op Instagram ook nog een ode aan verloofde Taylor Kinney: 'He loves the survivor in me. He's stood by me all night proud and unashamedly. THAT'S a real man.'
