Naast wat hickups tijdens de live show – Robbie Williams en Katy Perry kwamen niet goed weg gisteravond – draaide het natuurlijk om de felbegeerde beeldjes woensdagavond, tijdens de Brit Awards 2017.
Grote winnaar van de avond was David Bowie, die postuum de award voor beste mannelijke Britse soloartiest kreeg, en later op de avond ook de prijs voor beste Britse album met Blackstar. De laatstgenoemde nam zijn zoon in ontvangst, filmregisseur Duncan Jones, met de volgende ontroerende woorden:
'I lost my dad last year but I also became a dad. I was spending a lot of time, after getting over the shock, trying to work out what I would want my son to know about his granddad. It would be the thing that most of his fans have taken over the last 50 years. He's always been there supporting people who think they are a little bit weird or a little bit strange, a little bit different. He's always been there for them.'
Jones sloot af met: 'This award is for all the kooks, and all the people that make the kooks.'
Verder een extra shout out naar Adele die de award voor Global Success in ontvangst mocht nemen, en Rag'n'Bone Man die werd uitgeroepen tot Breakthrough Act van het jaar. Een award die garant staat voor glansrijke carrière; artiesten als Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard en Arctic Monkeys gingen hem voor – en kijk waar ze nu staan.
