Omdat het wel duidelijk was dat acteurs, actrices, regisseurs, producers en andere gegadigden die vannacht over de rode loper van de Golden Globes liepen dit keer niet gevraagd zou worden naar de naam van de designer van hun outfit maar naar hun persoonlijke reden waarom ze de 'kleur' zwart droegen, had iedereen zijn statement wel klaar. De Will & Grace-actrice Debra Messing nam extra uitgebreid de tijd om haar zegje bij reporters te doen over de reden van haar bijdrage aan de Times Up-beweging. En die had niet alleen te maken met protest tegen seksuele wanpraktijken in de entertainmentbusiness.
Via verslaggever Giuliana Rancic van E! News gaf ze een enorme sneer aan datzelfde E! over hun pay gap tussen mannen en vrouwen, met het recente vertrek om die reden van presentatrice Catt Sandler als aanleiding:
Messing:
'I am wearing black to thank and honor all of the brave whistleblowers who came forward and shared their stories of harassment, and assault and discrimination. I'm wearing black to stand in solidarity with my sisters all over the globe and I'm here to celebrate, the rollout of this incredible initiative, Time's Up. You know, time is up and we want diversity, we want intersectional gender parity, we want equal pay. I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn't believe in paying their female co-hosts the same as their male co-hosts. I miss Catt Sadler. So we stand with her, and that's something that can change tomorrow — you know, we want people to start having this conversation that women are just as valuable as men.'

Giuliana Rancic vervolgde haar gesprek met Debra Messing door te constateren dat alle grote namen vannacht in Hollywood waren en de mogelijkheid hadden om hun stem te laten horen voor de mensen die zelf niet dat platform of die kans krijgen. Messing:
'Absolutely. That's why it is so thrilling that there now is this Time's Up legal defense fund that has $15 million in it so far.... all of that money is going to go to working class women all over, who need funds for advocacy and legal representation, who have been harassed and assaulted. And, you know, this is not about Hollywood. This is about every woman in every industry globally...we need equal representation. So we want, 50/50 by 2020...within that 50 per cent, 30 per cent women of color.'
