Maak kennis met deze heldhaftige activisten die de rode loper van de Golden Globes betraden

Meryl Streep verscheen op de rode loper samen met Ai-Jen Poo, directeur van National Domestic Workers Alliance – een organisatie die zich inzet voor respect, erkenning en de arbeidsbescherming voor huishoudelijke personeel.' 

Streep vertelde op de rode loper: 'I think that people are aware, now, of a power imbalance. And it's something that leads to abuse. It's led to abuse in our own industry, and it's led to abuse across the domestic workers' field of work, it's in the military, it's in congress, it's everywhere. And we want to fix that and we feel sort of emboldened in this particular moment to stand together in a thick black line dividing then from now.'

Poo voegt daaraan toe: 'I hope people see the momentum and the energy and the fact that we're uniting across all industries, and all communities, standing together, saying, we all deserve workplaces where we are safe and our work is valued and we can live and work with dignity. That's the future. We have momentum, and we want to say to everyone that they should join us. This is a movement where there is space for everyone and there is a role for everyone.'

#MeToo-founders Michelle Williams en Tarana Burke verschenen samen op de rode loper. Burke richtte de #MeToo-organisatie al jaren geleden op om jongere vrouwen die te maken hebben gehad met seksueel geweld hulp te bieden. 

Williams legt uit waarom ze aanwezig zijn: 'We are here because Tarana started a movement. She planted a seed years ago, and it has grown and caught fire.'

Burke voegt toe: 'It's deeply humbling, This is something I started out of necessity, something my community needed it has grown over the years. Never could envision it growing like this. This moment is so powerful because we're seeing a ...collaboration between two worlds that people don't usually put together and most likely would have us pitted against each other. So it's really powerful to be on the red carpet tonight for people like Michele to be selfless enough to give up their time so we can talk about our causes.'

Laura Dern schitterde samen met Monica Ramirez – bestuursvoorzitter van Alianza Nacional de Campesinas – op de rode loper.

Ramirez schreef een open brief die verscheen in Time:  'Farmworker women pick, pack and plant the food that we eat and have a long history of, combatting work place sexual violence. when we learned what was hatch penning in Hollywood, our members felt strongly that the wanted to send a message to women in this industry and all people experiencing sexual violence in the work place that they're not alone, that we stand with them, that we lend them our power and our strength as they move through this difficult time. And part of our work as an organization is to fight for gender equality along all lines. So we fight for equal pay, we fight against sexual harassment, we fight for equity. So every person's voice will be valued—everyone will have the opportunity to reach their full potential.'

Marai Larasai, oprichter van Imkaan – een vrouwenorganisatie die zich richt op het aanpakken van geweld tegen gekleurde vrouwen –  werkt al meer dan een jaar samen met Emma Watson. En dat moest gevierd worden op de rode loper. 

Larasi over haar verschijning bij The Golden Globes: 'There is something about women in Hollywood speaking out. You know, there is a wall of silence around violence against women and girls.... and every time somebody speaks out, it just creates a bit of a crack in that wall. We don't want hierarchy, saying women of Hollywood are more important than other women. But we're saying women in Hollywood have an opportunity to amplify the issues and shine a light on things—and actually, that's incredibly important. So it's a special moment in time. It's not the beginning of a struggle or the end of the struggle. But it is a critical moment. This is a fantastic platform, and we are trying to use it in the best way we can.'

Saru Jayaraman, mede-oprichter en directeur van Restaurant Opportunities Centers United ( ROC United) stond niet alleen op de rode loper samen met Amy Poehler, ze vergezelde Poehler ook nog eens tijdens haar podiumuitwisseling met host Seth Meyers. De missie van ROC United is het verbeteren en verhogen van de lonen van het restaurantpersoneel.

Emma vertolkte in Battle of the Sexes de rol van tennislegende Billie Jean King, en nu staan ze samen te shinen op de rode loper. Kings wilde ervoor zorgen dat vrouwelijke tennissers serieuzer werden genomen. En dat is haar gelukt, ze zorgde er onder andere voor dat vrouwelijke tennisspelers nu hetzelfde prijzengeld krijgen als de mannen bij het tennistoernooi U.S Open. Daarnaast richtte King ook nog eens de Women's Sport Foundation op; een organisatie die jonge meiden helpt om een kans te krijgen in de sportwereld.
