Alweer bijna drie maanden geleden werd Peaches Geldof op 25-jarige leeftijd door haar man dood aangetroffen in haar huis in Kent. Een maand later bleek dat heroïne een rol bij haar dood heeft gespeeld.
Uiteraard waren vader Bob Geldof en de familie ontroostbaar en in de gezamenlijke persverklaring lieten ze toen weten:
'She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us. Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable?'
Nu praat de filantroop voor het eerst over het tragische overlijden van Peaches bij de Britse tv-show van Lorraine Kelly. Toen ‘m werd gevraagd hoe het nu met ‘m ging, antwoorde hij:
‘There's not many options. It's intolerable and it's very hard as everybody must realise but what else do you do? You just get on with it. I've always done that and being on stage is entirely cathartic. It completely clears your head. I just get on a stage and go mad, but if I dwell on the words sometimes, I struggle through the song because they take on meanings which I never meant when I actually wrote them.’
‘I've got to be careful because this is still very raw. I'll be walking down the street and suddenly out of the blue there's an awareness of her and I buckle.’
