Na haar fantastische speech voor de Verenigde Naties, kan Emma Watson niet meer stuk. En terecht!
De actrice werd daarom door onze Britse ELLE-collega's gevraagd om op de cover van het gloedjenieuwe feminisme-nummer te verschijnen, en daar zei ze gelukkig volmondig 'ja' tegen.
Emma werd gehuld in de mooiste outfits (Stella McCartney!) en werd op de gevoelige plaat vastgelegd door fotograaf Kerry Hallihan. De hoofdredacteur van de Britse ELLE, Lorraine Candy, voelde de 24-jarige actrice uiteraard ook eens flink aan te tand over oa haar opvoeding, feminisme en haar rol als Women Goodwil-ambassadeur (Lorraine was Emma's gast tijdens de VN Top, waar Emma dié speech gaf). Emma vertelt aan ELLE UK over die dag:
'It was a frightening experience for the 24 year old. I was very nervous. It wasn’t an easy thing for me to do. It felt like: "Am I going to have lunch with these people, or am I going to be eaten? Am I the lunch?".'
Ook doet ze uit de doeken waarom ze naast het actrice-zijn, ook besloot om activist te worden:
'Fame is not something I have always felt comfortable with; I have really grappled with it emotionally. And, in a funny way, doing this is my way of making sense of the fame, of using it. I have found a way to channel it towards something else, which makes it so much more manageable for me. And this is something I really believe in.'
Ze heeft zich dan ook enorm in het feminisme verdiept, en vindt dat iedere vrouw het moet omarmen:
'Feminism is not here to dictate to you. It’s not prescriptive, it’s not dogmatic. All we are here to do is give you a choice. If you want to run for President, you can. If you don’t, that’s wonderful, too. I’m lucky I was raised to believe that my opinion at the dinner table was valuable. My mum and I spoke as loudly as my brothers.'
