De rapper - die zich, net als zijn vader en wijlen moeder, hardmaakt voor allerhande racismekwesties - reageert vandaag tegen The Sun op het nieuws dat de Brit Idris Elba wellicht de eerste donkere James Bond wordt. Dit nieuws lekte onlangs uit door de Sony-hack, waarbij ook e-mails over onder andere de wereldberoemde franchise werden onthuld.
Kanye West laat nu aan de Britse krant weten: 'I know Idris a little bit and he is a big talent. The movies he has been making are special, and when the role for James Bond comes up it needs to be his. James Bond is a role made for British actors and you won't find a British actor who has the talent of Idris. To be honest you won't find many anywhere who have his talent. Artists should be visionaries. A black James Bond would be visionary no doubt. Something that 30 years ago would have seemed crazy should now be something that is a real possibility.'
Daniel Craig heeft in zijn contract staan dat-ie na de aanstaande James Bond-film Spectre nog één keer in de rol kruipt van het iconische personage. Daarna gaat het stokje dus mogelijk naar Elba.
Idris Elba zelf - die al heeft aangegeven dat-ie dolgraag 007 zou willen spelen - gaf ondertussen op Twitter de beste reactie ooit op alle Bond-geruchten:
