De Verenigde Naties wees Emma Watson aan als ambassadeur, zij gaf een verrassend treffende speech en plots stonden alle headlines vol met HeforShe, het gendergelijkheidsprogramma van de organisatie. Watson reageert nu op de overweldigende aandacht die haar spreken kreeg:
'I've been stunned by the amount of men in my life that have contacted me since my speech to tell me to keep going, and that they want to make sure that their daughters will still be alive to see a world where women have power and equality, economically and politically.'
Ze vervolgt:
'It is my belief that there is a greater understanding than ever that women need to be equal participants in our homes, in our societies, in our governments, and in our work places.'
Afijn, ze zegt dit allemaal in een nieuwe speech voor de Verenigde Naties, waarin ze onder andere uit de doeken doet wat haar plan - IMPACT 10x10x10 genaamd - precies inhoudt. 'So what is IMPACT 10x10x10? I'ts about engaging governments, businesses and universities, and having them make concrete commitments to gender equality.'
