Emma Watson vertelt in een nieuw interview met Vanity Fair dat ze haar privéleven zo privé mogelijk probeert te houden en daar consistent in wil zijn:
'I can't talk about my boyfriend in an interview and then expect people not to take paparazzi pictures of me walking around outside my home. You can't have it both ways.'
Emma's vriend is de tech entrepreneur William 'Mack' Knight met wie ze het afgelopen jaar een paar keer op de kiek werd gezet.
Emma Watson waakt ervoor dat haar relatie wekelijks op de voorpagina belandt en haalt tegen Vanity Fair lichtjes uit naar sterren als Taylor Swift, die hun relaties inzetten als promotiemiddel:
'I've noticed, in Hollywood, who you're dating gets tied up into your film promotion and becomes part of the performance and the circus. I would hate anyone that I were with to feel like they were in any way part of a show or an act.'
Stoppen met acteren?
Emma Watson heeft een hekel aan beroemd zijn en wilde een paar jaar geleden zelfs helemaal stoppen met acteren, toen ze studeerde aan Brown University. Tijdens de promotietour voor de laatste Harry Potter-film, stortte ze volgens eigen zeggen in:
'I'd walk down the red carpet and go into the bathroom during the last few premieres .I had on so much makeup and these big, fluffy, full-on dresses. I'd put my hands on the sink and look at myself in the mirror and say, 'Who is this?' I didn't connect with the person who was looking back at me, and that was a very unsettling feeling.'
Tijdens haar studie aan Brown University stond Emma op het punt om acteren de rug toe te keren, maar toen kreeg ze de prachtrol in de film ThePerks of Being a Wallflower aangeboden, en vond ze haar liefde voor acteren weer:
'I was finding this fame thing was getting to a point of no return. I sensed if this was something I was ever going to step away from it was now or never.'
Emma Watson werd vooral onzeker van het feit dat ze niet de 'gebruikelijke celebrity is'. Daar is ze naar eigen zeggen veel te serieus voor:
'I've been doing this since I was 10 or 11, and I've often thought, I'm so wrong for this job because I'm too serious; I'm a pain in the ass; I'm difficult; I don't fit .But as I've got older, I've realized, No! Taking on those battles, the smaller ones and the bigger ones, is who I am.'
Daarom probeert Emma Watson nu aan haar promotietours voor films een politiek thema te hangen. Tijdens haar huidige rodelopermarathon voor Beauty and the Beast is ze dan ook een nieuw Instagramaccount genaamd The Press Tour gestart, waarin ze uitlegt welke milieuvriendelijke en handgemaakte kleding ze draagt:
