Maar hoewel de jurk van ontwerpster Roksanda, die Melania Trump droeg tijdens de grote convention speech, direct uitverkocht op designer webshop Net-a-Porter, lijken er ongeveer net zo veel ontwerpers in de rij te staan om voor de nieuwe first lady te ontwerpen als er artiesten staan te trappelen om te zingen op Donald Trumps inauguratie. Tommy Hilfiger is één van de groten namen in de business die zich openlijk uitsprak en liet weten dat hij Melania prachtig vindt en het een eer vindt om voor haar te ontwerpen. Maar ook veel designers hebben hun onvrede geuit over Melania Trump en haar eega, aangevoerd door Sophie Theallet, die dat direct na de uitkomst van de verkiezingen middels een open brief deed.
