Toch kan het handig zijn om er net iets langer bij stil te staan dan je zin in hebt. Niet alleen vanuit comfortoogpunt ('t is toch vaak een hele zit in zo'n vliegtuig), maar ook omdat je geen zin hebt in gedoe bij de douane.
Oud-douanier Kimberly Pruitt deed aan website Who What Wear uit de doeken welke items je sowieso wilt vermijden om te voorkomen dat je apart genomen wordt voor extra fouilleerwerk.

Tenzij je het prima vindt dat je je rok flink omhoog moet houden. 'If you are opposed to getting patted down, then wearing a maxi skirt or dress isn't your best bet because the officer will have to check you are not hiding anything under your skirt,' aldus Pruitt.
> Liever geen schuifspeldjes
Pruitt: 'Believe it or not, too many bobby pins will set off the metal detector alarm. If you're looking to maintain your hair and skip the pat down, then I would suggest getting dolled up after screening.'

Het gaat hier om het feit dat dit een kledingstuk met een boel zakken (aan de zijkant). We kijken naar jou, Rihanna. 'Cargo pants and shorts are one of the most difficult items of clothing at the airport,' aldus Pruitt. 'All the different pockets become a major hassle because they almost always set off the alarm. When being told by an officer to remove everything from your pockets, there is always a lighter or set of keys that you've forgotten in a hidden pocket.'
