Het is nu een seizoen geleden dat Meghan Markle in het huwelijksbootje stapte met Prins Harry en ze halverwege het programma in een simpele, prachtige Stella McCartney-jurk verscheen.
Bruidsjurk Meghan Markle: dé klus van het jaar
Het was in mei natuurlijk de top notch-klus voor iedere ontwerper; de trouwjurk van Meghan Markle ontwerpen. Meer dan 1,9 miljard mensen zagen Markle trouwen. Hoe kreeg Stella McCartney die klus in haar orderboekje? Daar spilled ze nu de beans over in een interview met onze Britse collega's, ELLE UK. Wat blijkt: Meghan Markle belde háár. McCartney:
'I have had moments in my career where I’ve caught up with Gwyneth or Madonna and was like "Can I dress you for that?" But this time around, they were drawn to me.'
McCartney denkt dat dit niet alleen komt door het feit dat ze goed is in jurken maken. Ook haar groene ontwerpproces heeft invloed gehad, zo denkt ze:
'I think Meghan chose me for reasons other than just a beautiful dress — plenty of people can do that. She is not a difficult client to make look beautiful. Amal called me and asked me to do it, as did Oprah. I look at that Amal dress, and it is made of sustainable viscose that took us three years to develop.'
Het feit dat ze vrouw is, heeft volgens de ontwerper ook bijgedragen:
'Obviously I am a British designer, but I think being a woman and being a women’s woman played a part. They are all women’s women. It’s a big deal.'
Tot slot had ze al goed contact met Markle voordat ze ging trouwen. McCartney:
'[Meghan] approached me and we worked on other things. She wore other pieces of mine and we had a friendship. And then she asked me to do her second wedding dress. I was honoured and I still am.'
